There is room for only 24 contestants.

Dry Creek in Sonoma Valley, California is one of our favorite vineyards in the world. A decade ago, we had a phenomenal experience visiting Napa and Sonoma.  We had the privilege at Dry Creek Vineyard to jump into owner Don Wallace’s jeep with him for a private tour of his vineyards.  This tour crescendoed with a picnic lunch and tasting of Dry Creek Wines on a mountain top deck cantilevered over Sonoma Valley on a gorgeous sunny day. An amazing afternoon sampling some beautiful wines.

Since that memorable experience we have always featured Dry Creek on our wine list and at the Emporium. Because of our long-standing friendship with Dry Creek, they will be hosting an exclusive wine event at Joseph Decuis in which they will teach us, all of us, hands-on, how to make a Meritage blend. We are excited to learn with you.

What's a Meritage? Dry Creek writes, "in 1988 most California winemakers focused on varietal wines – Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and a handful of other varieties. A few who recognized that many of the world’s most prized wines were not simply one note compositions turned their attention to blending, intent on producing wines of artistic expression. A small group of these like-minded producers founded the Meritage Association. Meritage identifies wines produced from the traditional “noble” Bordeaux varietals, with no single variety making up more than 90 percent of the blend. In addition, Association member wineries agree to use Meritage to refer to their best wines, those that represent the highest form of winemaking art."

The Challenge - "if you’ve ever dreamed of being a winemaker, here is your chance!"

Midwest Regional Managers from Dry Creek Vineyards and local sales reps from Southern Glaziers will lead us on an interactive blending experience to show us first-hand the art of blending.  They call it a challenge for two reasons.  First, it’s a fun-filled competition among participants to see who can make the best blend. There will be teams who will blend several traditional components together making their own wine. A tasting and judging will follow for the best Meritage.
